It is with regret that the Board of Directors announces that it terminated employment of our maintenance supervisor, Chad Denney effective August 29, 2008. This decision was made by a unanimous vote of all seven members. The Board members cannot discuss the details of this action because of the sensitive personnel nature. All owners should be assured that the Board of Directors has taken this action in the best interest of our island and community. We wish Chad the best in his future endeavors."

I would like to know what
the Board was thinking in
deleting the rule that has
existed for years prohibiting the hanging of
towels, blankets, etc from
railings on homes in Harbor Island. I do not
enjoy looking at the above
hanging from the railings across the street or next door from me. Was this done to placate the renter
lobby ? Let's not start to allow Harbor Island to
get trashed up. PUT THIS
RULE BACK INTO PLACE !

This summer we had a problem with the irrigation on our recreation field on Harbor Island. A valve was letting water seep back into the well after the pump and sprinklers ran their cycles. I called Dickinson Well Drilling and Pump, the company who installed the pump. First, Mr. Derek Howard now owns Dickinson. Second, Derek said he would have a crew out in a day or two and, yes, the crew was out the morning of the second day. Third, the faulty plastic valve was replaced with a new brass valve, a new brass valve was added to the second well line and a malfunctioning switch was replaced. Fourth, all this work was done at no cost. Derek honored the former owner’s guarantee and did it with upgraded parts. Based on the integrity of Derek, I have recommended Derek and Dickinson Pump for other work on Harbor. The new well, pump and lines were done within the time stated and at a reasonable cost. I feel good work should be noted; Dickinson Pumps, and Derek Howard can be reached at 843-524-2274.

SCDHEC performs water quality inspections on our beaches approximately twice a month in the summer. This week they noticed higher than acceptable bacteria levels which necessitated the posting of signs in Pelican Point closing that section of the beach. If you have been ill, had surgery or cuts DHEC recommends that you stay out of the water. If you have any questions please visit www.earth911.org there is a link to beach water quality which will keep you updated on the status of the Harbor Island beach

Hello Neighbors:
Thanks to Michael Brannen and his team of helpers, we now have a new fun activity for Harbor Island - "Movie Night on Harbor Island". The equipment was purchased from donations made at Pancake Breakfast.
"Movie Night on Harbor Island" will be held monthly at the conference center. Days and frequency to be decided.
The first movie will be on Tuesday, October 2, at 7:30. "TOP GUN" starring Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis will be shown on Wide Screen with full surround sound. Pop Corn and Cokes will be available for purchase, 50 cents for PC as well as 50 cents for a Coke. BYOB if you wish.
Michael has asked that you bring a list of movies that you have on DVD listing if it's wide screen (1.66, 16X9 or wider) or standard (1.33 pan and scan). He will compile the list and let the group vote. We could then set our future schedule starting with the most popular.

Hi Neighbors:
"Ice Cream on the Green" has been cancelled to a later date due to a small response. We only have 5 couples who have said they are coming. Others are worried about the heat during the middle of the day and the mosquitoes.
We think it would be best to put this off until sometime in September when the temperatures are a little cooler. Maybe combine it with the "Take Back our Island" party.

Hi Neighbors:
On Sunday, August 19, at 1:00 P.M. come to the recreation area for Ice Cream on the Green. Bring a picnic lunch for your family, your beverage of choice, and chairs. You might also want to bring a beach umbrella for shade. Anyone who has an ice cream churn and would like to bring it and make homemade ice cream, let me know. We have one and will make peach ice cream. We will probably need a few people to bring a gallon of their favorite store bought ice cream just to be sure we have enough. You could also bring toppings, such as chocolate sauce, nuts, whipped cream, strawberries, etc. or a plate of cookies or brownies. We will have several ice chest to keep the store bought ice cream cold. Please leave the homemade ice cream in the churn so that it will stay frozen.
As always, bocce ball, croquet, and horseshoes will be available. If you would like, bring your tennis racquet and play a little tennis.
I really need to know who will be bringing ice cream. Please email or call 838-2142.
Thanks,

Hi Neighbors,
The famous, 7th annual, Harbor Island 4th of July Parade will start at 10:00 A. M. at the far North end of North Harbor Drive on Wednesday, July 4. The Lady's Island Fire Truck will lead the parade. Golf carts, bicycles, wagons, and walkers will fall in behind. Since this is a family event with many children talking part, no cars or trucks will be in the parade. All vehicles delivering parade participants are asked to turn around at Teal Court so we can keep vehicles out of the area where children are milling about waiting for the parade to start. No advertising in the parade.
Judges will be in front of the boardwalk across from Mickey's Alley and will decide winners in 5 categories:
Best Patriotic Theme
Best Island or Nautical Theme
Most Original
Most Humorous
Best Overall
Awards to be given at the BRC when the parade has ended there.
At 11:30 Harry Merrill from Harry's Harbor Shop on Harbor Island, will start serving corn dogs and chips for children under 12 ($5) and an offering of sausage, peppers and onions and homemade meatball parmesan, both will be served with hoagie rolls and chips for adults ($7) at the Beach and Racquet Club. Non-alcoholic drinks will be for sale by the BRC for $1. No reservations necessary just bring your money if you wish to buy lunch.
Hope to see you all there!

With summer just around the corner :) wanted to remind that our daughter Chelsea Hoffman (now 13!!) is an experienced, responsible baby sitter, who lives (with us) on the island full time, so no issue getting her to/from your house. If you need a baby sitter, call 838-9075. Thank you.

Need a response from ARB. How can form be updated 1-2007 changing the performance bond from $4,500 deposit to a form reading $4,500 owner and $4,500 contractor. In reviewing recorded revisions from official HIOA it is not recorded that there is even a 2007 revision. If we are desireous of our Harbor Island community being resident friendly instead of only for profit from development why do we double charge some one who wishes to pursue a goal of living permanetly on Harbor Island.
Sincerely, Walter S. Dodson
